Smart meter / solar sizing

Size solar around
how you actually live.

Connect your Octopus Energy account and we’ll analyse up to a year of half-hourly electricity use. That helps show how much energy you use, when you use it, and whether solar or a battery is likely to be useful.

Why it matters

Annual demand

Stops solar sizing from relying on a rough bill estimate.

Daytime use

Shows how much generation you may be able to use directly.

Evening use

Helps indicate whether a battery could shift useful solar into the evening.

02 / Understand

Your electricity profile

Annualised electricity use—

estimated from the smart-meter period available

Average day—

electricity used across a typical day

Used 8am–6pm—

rough proxy for demand that can overlap with solar

Used 4pm–midnight—

useful indicator when considering storage

Typical demand through the day

Average power by hour from your half-hour readings.

Indicative solar starting point

—

This is deliberately a starting point, not a design. Roof size, orientation, shading, export limits and economics can move the answer substantially.

Indicative evening requirement

—

This is the average energy used from 4pm to midnight, capped for a domestic planning view. Battery sizing should ultimately be simulated against solar generation and tariff behaviour.

Planning estimate only. Smart-meter history describes demand, not what your roof can generate. SurreySkies combines this with roof geometry and PVGIS generation estimates to inform a more useful feasibility discussion.
